Tomaga presents a soundtrack to Lucifer Rising (UK)

The London based improvisation duo Tomaga has established itself amongst Europe’s most interesting experimental acts of the last years. Percussionist Valentina Magaletti (now also in UUUU) and bass player / electronicist Tom Relleen have been working together o.a. with French mecano musician Pierre Bastien and releasing numerous albums.

Their latest project focuses on a new live soundtrack for Kenneth Anger’s movie Lucifer Rising from 1972. Lucifer Rising is regarded as a cult classic in the genre of occult film, with numerous magickal symbols and allegories, ranging from ancient Egypt to Aleister Crowley’s Thelema. After a vaulted soundtrack for the film by Bobby Beausoleil (Manson Family) and a later official soundtrack by Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Tomaga takes on the soundtrack into the next century. A special screening of the film with live-soundtrack will take place on the Saturday of Spider, Spit and Broken Bells. Don’t miss this!

Turia (NL)

Turia was started in the winter of 2014. The band aims to evoke gripping black metal, stripped to its bare necessities. Utilizing a minimal setup of drums and guitar they bring to life a mirage of sound while anguished screams drag the listener into a vastness of desolation. Turia’s minimalist bare stripped Black Metal makes them stand out in their genre, ascending themselves to be one of The Netherland’s most promising black metal bands of the last years.

Giant Swan (UK)

One of Britain’s best kept secrets, Giant Swan is a Bristol-based techno-not-techno band, famed for their amazing live performances. They build their music on a foundation of rhythmic tension and frenzied improvisation, so their show is an ever-changing energetic spectacle. Combining hardware, guitar and manipulated vocals, they make thunderous and aggressive music that taps into both industrial noise and psychedelic jamminess.

DSR Lines/David Edren (BE)

David edren has been creating electronic sounds as DSR Lines for almost 2 decades, laying out liquifying modular synth stunners as audible acupuncture sessions. Edren keeps his sounds tactly understated and fully improvising explores his scientific aesthetics with delicacy and restrain. In 2012 he co-started the Hare Akedod label, an imprint for electro acoustic improv music. His latest work explores his own take on electronic gamelan music.

Masterclass Danny Devos at Spider, Spit and Broken Bells

Spider, Spit and Broken Bells invites you to an intense and in-depth course in performance art by the legendary Belgian performance and installation artist Danny Devos aka DDV. For six days in a row, from dusk till dawn, you can immerse yourself in the world of performance and body art in the domain of visual art. Participants with a dance or theatre background are strongly depreciated. The starting point is DDV’s own oeuvre of 170 performances up to date. You also get the chance to participate in the Haperende Mens festival, on January 12 and 13.

Expect an extended exploration of DDV’s work; by video, photography and lectures; and lots of complimentary examples and material from other performers and artists, such as: Vito Acconci, Chris Burden, Joseph Beuys, Gina Pane, Viennese Aktionismus and much more. Discussions will revolve about art, performance, and counterculture, in relation with society, our daily life and everyday environment. Time will be used to reflect on and discuss one’s own work, to develop new ideas, new works, prepare exercises, and reenact the work of others to get the feel and touch of Performance Art in practice. After this the participants are invited to participate at the Haperende Mens festival (no obligations on both sides!)

DDV has produced an enormous amount of work since the late 1970s: from installations, exhibitions and performances, through research, publications, and articles in the famous 80’s DIY art and multimedia magazine, Force Mental. DDV still performs with his noise band Club Moral. Both these projects are in cooperation with his partner, multi-media artist Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven. The thread in all his work is the investigation, exploration and transgression of the limitations of everyday life, manifesting itself through #pain, #crime, #consciousness, #death, etc..

Oiseaux Tempête (FR)

Oiseaux Tempete is an experimental postrock band with psychedelic and ethnic influences hailing from Paris. With their latest album Al An! they collaborated with musicians from Beirut and created an instant underground classic full of oriental sounds and experimentation.
In OISEAUX-TEMPÊTE ([wazo-tɑ̃.pɛːt] – Storm Petrel), Frédéric D. Oberland and Stéphane Pigneul have chosen a name, a call from the sea, of almost totemic quality. First, perhaps, it offers the suggestion of journeys over great distance, the distant hymns of fortune-tellers and gravity defying acts of the oracles. Yet at the same time, comes the idea of earthly chaos, a willing reference to the telluric frenzy that darkens the sky yet also, paradoxically, brings promise of a radiant tomorrow.

Bear Bones, Lay Low (VE/BE)

Bear Bones, Lay Low is the musical project of the Brussels based Venezuelan musician Ernesto Gonzalez. For the last ten years Gonzales has been making diverse music in which experiment, unexpected layers, ecstasy and ritual come together. Through the combination of electronic and acoustic sounds an unknown world of dystropical nature unfolds. Repetitive kosmische and experimental sounds build up to trance-like heights. Ernesto’s oeuvre spans over more than 50 different releases. Also he is part of many different collaborative groups like Yader and TAV Exotic.
